Parliamentary committee briefs UN expert on Sudan status of Human rights

The Parliament's Justice and Legislation committee on Sunday briefed the United Nations Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan, Aristide Nononsi, currently on visit to the country, on the activities and the supervisory role played by the parliament on human rights issues.

Chairman of the committee, Osman Adam Nimir pointed to the various reforms introduced on the laws with regard to human rights as well as the amendments on the country 2005 constitution and the implementation of the outcome of the National Dialogue.
He referred to the decision of the president of the republic on collection of unlicensed firearms and its reflection on the security and stability in the areas that used to witness conflict.He commended the legislative climate in the Sudan which in support of respect of human rights and urged the UN experts to provide the required logistical and technical assistance to all human rights bodies in the country.The expert has meanwhile commended the experience of the National Dialogue in the Sudan.
The committee chairman handed the expert a copy of the legal amendments with regards to human rights which are in line with the human rights and the international and regional conventions and tools on human rights.
